Happiness In Christ

We live in a world that tries to tell us and sell us lots of things that they say will make us happy. TV commercials tell us if we buy this car it will make us happy, if we get the right toothpaste, the right deodorant, the right whatever we will be happy. People around us and our friends will tell us if we make a lot of money, if we have the right job, if we hang out at the right places we will be happy.

The problem is if we put our hope and trust in things to be happy there will come a time of disappointment, the "things" we really thought we needed wear out, or we buy the shoes, the purse, the gadgets, the cars, the golf clubs, the boom boxes, the toys, the whatever we think it is we need to make us happy and we find we lose interest in them or something new and bigger comes along.

Soon Christmas will be upon us and people will go in debt and spend all sorts of money thinking that it will buy our kids and others happiness but it won’t buy happiness that lasts. Take a poll at your house, think back to what you bought your kids last year or even a few years ago, are they still playing with it or is it thrown aside and forgotten.

When we try to find happiness in things and people we will be disappointed. Truth is people will let us down or hurt us, we are all human, we make mistakes, we do things wrong.

But true happiness can be found!!

The word happy means - contentment, joy, pleasure. True happiness will come when we surrender our lives to the Lord, when we take that step and say Here I am Lord, I surrender all – all my hopes, all my dreams, all my plans, all my life to YOU, I give You My life, I give You my heart, Father God I commit myself to You! Scripture tells us in

Psalm 128:1 (Amplified)
Blessed (Happy, fortunate to be envied) is everyone who fears, reveres, and worships the LORD, who walks in His ways and lives according to His commandments.

Psalm 1: 1,2
Blessed, (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly (following their advice, their plans and purposes), nor stands (submissive and inactive) in the path where sinners walk, not sits down (to relax and rest) where the scornful (and the mockers) gather, But his delight and desire are in the law of the LORD, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.

Proverbs 15:15
All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil (by anxious thoughts and forebodings) but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast (regardless of circumstances.)

The word desponding means to be become discouraged or lose hope, a feeling of extreme unhappiness the word foreboding means to think bad things are going to happen, dwell on the negative. Our attitude is an inward feeling expressed by outward behavior. What a person is on the inside has more impact on his emotional state than the circumstances.

Jesus told us in Luke 9:23,
Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."

For us to live a happy life, we must be doers of the Word, we must live our lives for the sake of Christ, we must be worshipers, seekers after God, we must be doers of the Word, we must encourage others on in their walk with the Lord, we must learn to find contentment in God and God alone, to live the surrendered life.

Are you happy, truly happy, are you putting all your hope in God, are you trusting Him with the big issues in your life, the every day living, the day in and the day out – is your hope in Him, are you finding contentment and joy and peace where you are at? Remember to be happy seek after God!!!
