Living The Golden Rule

I watched a bit of parking lot drama unfold the other day as I sat in my car waiting for my daughter to come out of a store. Someone parked by the curb to wait for someone to come out of the store, then someone else got upset because the car was parked there. They started honking their horn and yelling at the other driver through the window. The person in the second car then went around the first car and cut off a third car. The driver in the third car started honking at the second car and yelling.

Another day, I went into a store and, wouldn't you know it, saw people cutting other people off with their carts. I saw a couple yelling at one another. I saw a child throwing a fit because they couldn't get what they wanted.

On both occasions I wondered to myself what happened to the Golden Rule? Whatever happened to Matthew 7:12? "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets" (KJV).

Whatever happened to being courteous to others, to being kind to one another? Whatever happened to showing patience to others? We have become so "me focused" we don't have time to reach out and be kind to others.

It saddens me when even in the church we see people more concerned about themselves than others. If we call ourselves "Christian" but aren't living a Christ-filled life, how will others come to know the saving grace and love of our Heavenly Father?

Each of us needs to show the love of Christ every day to our family, our neighbors, our community, and to anyone we may meet. It is time to live the words of Jesus and treat others how we would like to be treated.
